Name movies that are generally viewed to be good or great that you consider to be overhyped garbage.
Here are my examples ;
- Every Speilberg movie
- Every Kubrick movie
- Every Tarentino movie
- Every Cohen Brothers movie
- Every single movie that tries to be dark & cool (like Boondock Saints, Snatch, Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels, you know the type)
- Every comic book movie I've seen (yes, including that dreadful latest Batman flick)
- Every movie Clint Eastwood has ever been associated with.
- Those stupid Bourne movies.
- All James Bond movies.
And to be more precise with others that don't fit in the above categories...
- Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
- Incendies
- Monty Python movies
- Taxi Driver
- Amelie
- Requiem For A Dream
- Life is Beautiful (not terrible, but grossly overhyped)
- A Beautiful Mind
- The Green Mile
- Die Hard 3
- Deer Hunter
- The Lion King
- Slumdog Millionaire (and what the hell was that stupid dance number about?)
- Good Night, and Good Luck.
- Platoon
- Scarface.
- What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
- Ghandi
- The Exorcist
- Magnolia (Captivating until it randomly starts to rain frogs. Another Walter-Tango-Foxtrot moment)

The only thing I could think of are the uber-testosterone movies, like all the Jason Statham ones. They just seem so....so cheesy and cornball to me. I get a little embarrassed just watching the previews

I studied film production, so am leaning a bit more towards "artistic" movies and understand a bit more than most people what lies beneath the productions I watch. Therefore I like most of the movies OP listed as bad for them, however I hate mass production movies packed with special effects to cover the fact that every movie is approximately the same story with different characters.

I don't mind posting a list of movies I loved, but rest assured there are plenty of movies that don't fit in any of the categories I mentioned... or perhaps your movie tastes go hand-in-hand with hype?
If you're still interested/curious, I'll post a list.

And yes, that movie truly did suck donkey balls.
When I first heard the team responsible for Aladdin was working on a new movie, I was ecstatic. What I saw was horrendous beyond belief.

Oddly enough, I'll watch anything with Freddy Prinz J.R. in it too.
Moulin Rouge was a wretched piece of dog excrement. The camera work (Cinematography) in Natural Born Killers drove me nuts! Yeah, I know that Director of Photography is a job title, but if I know someone's doing it, they aren't doing it very well IMO.

To the OP, you are wrong on many counts in your above list of films.
However, I have about an hour to kill, so I'd like a complete breakdown of all the bloopers in the Bond and Bourne films please. |

However, it's been parodied and poked-fun-at so many times during my lifetime that I cannot watch it without feeling "meh." I think this is often the case with things (not just movies) that are "over-hyped". I didn't start playing the bass until long after Jaco was dead. He wasn't "cutting edge", or "nouveau" to me. He's a dude that most bassists jock like crazy. Did he define an instrument and approach? Yes. Does that really mean the world to me? No. I don't "know" a world without Jaco's playing, or people telling each other about Jaco's playing, or people emulating Jaco's playing. To me, it just is. Another example would be cellphones. I didn't get my first cellphone until about 10 years ago (I'm 36). However, a few of the younger guys I work with really do not "know" a world without cellphones...or the Internet...too them, things such as these may be "over-hyped".

My answer, OTOH, would have to start with pretty much any Michael Bay movie (conspicuously missing from your list). Covering up stupidity with volume and special effects isn't my thing--well, maybe in music it is.
