So I am getting an apartment soon with a friend. My friends mother fosters cats at her house till they are 1 year old then gives them back to the shelter. Anyways, this cat is leaving my friends in a few days and its a really sweet cat, so I decided to get it.
How about some tips?
Im specifically nervous about my carpeted bass cab... |

If you can't do that then just watch the cat closely for a while. If it starts clawing it up get a water spritzer and just spray it every time it goes near the cab. It will associate the cab with unpleasant sogginess and will hopefully deter it from the scratching.
Same goes for furniture. To save time get a scratchy thing specifically for the cat.
Also, if its an indoor cat, clean the box regularly. The stink will sink into the walls.

Technically speaking
You get what you give. I spoil my cats outrageously, so they're a pack of furry suckholes without a mean bone between them. I wake up to Boris and Killer licking my beard, Gnarf on my chest, Natasha on my belly, and 5ive between my feet.
Top to bottom:
Natasha (aka Squirrel)
Gnarf
Boris (aka Moose) & Killer
5ive
Come to think of it, the comforter is kinda redundant. . .

I'd be more worried about the furniture, wallpapers and flowers you might have in your apartment. My cat have pissed at several places in it, including my bed and the sofa, more often in the latter. I'm glad it's a leather sofa so it's easy to clean. The bed is worse, and it has pissed there three times during the two years I've had it.. The wallpapers are damaged by the cat's claws at several places. It killed a palm tree I had by scratching it and chewing on the leaves. It chews on the leaves of the other palms I have as well if it gets the chance so I keep them rather high up.
Despite all that, it's a nice cat that always come to say high when I come home after work...

But, that being said, cats are pretty good to have around. Enjoy.

I found that it works best if you can do it so that the cat does not see the water bottle after you spray. That way the cat associates getting soaked more with the behavior and not with you holding a water bottle.

I never have problems with scratched furniture either. Whenever I let him in, he doesn't even scratch the carpet. He finds a nice soft spot and lays there. Sometimes he likes to go inside the baby grand piano whenever someone plays. |

| | You don't want to do that. Trust me. Forum Administrator | | Join Date: Mar 2000 Location: atlanta ga | | keeping my cat's nails clipped has really helped in them not tearing crap up. they only do it when they are trying to control their claw growth. that crap gets outta control and they don't have any clippers they can use.
get a covered litter box, and don't let the cat outside - indoor/outdoor kitties have a severely decreased lifespan expectancy than purely indoor cats.
