I was going to start a thread on this, but here it is!
I think it's going to be a very good fight.
Positive for De La Hoya: his experience, and the fact that he usually uses his head, and makes brawlers box, rather than brawl with them.
Negative for Oscar: His age (35), more precisely, I think he's lost enough speed to possibly allow Pacquiao to win.
Positive for Pacquiao: His speed, his age (29) and his aggressiveness.
Negative for Pacquiao: Not much I can think of - he is a tiger, and De La Hoya had better take him seriously.
But De La Hoya takes all his opponents seriously.
If you want a pick, I'll take De La Hoya after the 7th round by decision.
We shall see. Should be a good fight.

Go back and watch Oscar in his prime, he was simply not that great. He was given a gift against Quartey, robbed in the Trinidad fight, arguments could be made for the Moseley fights (I think Moseley won both but they were both close). His best wins were against a washed up Chavez, a stand up brawler in Vargas and his knockout of human punching bag Mayorga. Sure he also beat Whitaker, but he was also past his prime. Quote:

Margarito will crush Pacman... | De La Hoya has been shot since he got knocked out by Hopkins, you can't fight once a year in your 30s and expect to stay sharp. Margo is much, much bigger than De La Hoya and it would be stupid for Pac to fight him, but I am willing to bet that Margs couldn't even find him in the ring. Cotto fought like an idiot in that fight and decided to just go straight back and lay on the ropes allowing Margs to destroy him, especially since he has such a questionable chin. Manny will fight Hatton and probably KO him which will draw Mayweather out of retirement and they will fight at like 140. The way to beat Manny is to counter him, that is why he struggled against JMM. The only counter puncher in boxing better than JMM is Mayweather. Margo will fight Moseley, who may be able to beat him if he does not stand and trade, if he wins that fight he will rematch with Cotto. Margs needs to go up, he is big enough to fight guys like Forrest and maybe even Pavlik.

| | | | Margarito is roughly the same size as De La Hoya, the problem is that he's in his prime unlike the Olden boy, and he has every bit the tenacity Pacman does. From what I hear, Pacquiao's likely going to settle at 140 and eventually fight Hatton next year. I'd love to see a Mayweather Pacquiao fight. |

Also, Margo is naturally much bigger, I believe he came into the Cotto fight at about 165. Oscar came in to the Manny fight at 147, why would he starve himself? I have no idea. Like I said in my post, Manny KO's Oscar (better than Floyd) and then KO's Hatton, especially if he does it in an earlier round than Mayweather, he will have to come out of retirement. That fight will be so big he really won't have a choice, also it will squash all his critics if he were to dominate Pac.

| | | Just a question of interpretation then. I thought for a second that I don't remember Margarito being as big as Paul Williams. |

Margarito has generally had trouble with taller fighters, including Williams and Daniel Santos.
