I'd like to think that I had spent enough hours playing flight simulators as a kid that I could land a plane with minimal deaths.

Can't guarantee the landing gear will work or even stay attached to the plane, but I could probably crash land a plane.

Either way, it's pretty incredible.

Well, as they usually tell on one of your first private license lesson :

A good landing is one after which you walk out of the plane by yourself. A great landing is one after which you can re-use the aircraft.

I just got the newest flight simulator.

I managed to land a rocket ship on straight descent from 1,000,000 feet.

To get that high, I found a glitch
I'm pretty sure i'm on NASA's backup pilot list.

That is amazing. I had a dream where this happened. My buddy (who is a bush pilot) landed the plane.

A quote from the article:

The passenger landed the plane safely on his first try.

NO $### !!!

I'm glad they told us this or we might think he crashed into the ground three or four times before finally getting it right.

Actually a pass at the runway is considered a try in this case. So if he had come in, then pulled up for some reason, that would be a try.

I know that. My comment pertains to the unnecessary inclusion of the word "safely".

If they notice something is wrong, they will tell him to pull up and try again.

I like your rational better.

Air Traffic Controller: Ok, let's try that again; only this time start 6 feet *above* the runway, not below it.

Well if it was a crash landing and three people broke bones on the first try, it wouldn't have been "safely". There is no unneeded word in that sentence.

If I was that guy I would either fly my own planes from now on, or take a bus.

The passenger crashed the plane the 1st try but landed the plane safely on his second try.
