PAY PAL HOLDING FUNDS?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just received an email from PayPal saying that.......

"From now on, money you receive will be temporarily held in a pending balance." they go on to say, "We reviewed your account and determined that there's a relatively higher than average risk of future transaction issues (such as claims, or chargebacks, or payment reversals). We understand that it may be inconvenient to have your payments temporarily held but please know that we didn't make this decision lightly."

In the entire time I have been registered with paypal, I have never had a transaction issue. I called them just now and they told me that they are doing this to ALL sellers.

I'm not happy about this and am considering cancelling my paypal account.

Anyone else having this same issue??

There's nothing on their Policy Updates page about that:

Did the email ask you to login from their link?

Paypal has a habit of doing this for no apparent reason whatsoever. On the other hand, them "holding" your payments before disbursing them to you means they're making interest on it.

Expect it to happen once you cross a certain volume of sales every month and it becomes worth it for PayPal to suck up a couple weeks interest.

No, I've been on the phone with them twice and the second girl told me that every 35 days the accounts are reviewed. If you have less than 50 ebay feedbacks then your account is given a "hold" status where they hold the $$ for up to 21 days or until the buyer leaves feedback.

This seems kind of ridiculous because I have had less than 50 feedbacks for a year and they never put my account on hold before.

I have always had instant access to the money in my account and I even have a paypal debit card. Not a very good way to do business if you ask me.

Hmm. I might switch my current listings to Money Order or Check only. I don't want to deal with this nonsense.

That's a good idea too. I'm always spending money on PayPal, so this won't bother me.

I've almost stopped using PayPal for sales (I don't use ebay for selling stuff). I still buy stuff using PP from time to time.

For sales, I usually ask for payment by online transfer direct to my bank and people on the site where I advertise stuff seem happy enough to do this as the feedback mechanism works well there (as I think it does here - I only advertise elsewhere because I'm in the UK).

If PayPal pulled this stunt across me then I'd definitely stop using them for any sales at all.

Are the problems that people experience with PayPal mostly related to ebay sales? Granted, these are one and the same company. But with a regular PayPal merchant account and no ebay sales, I have literally never had a problem, and I get my money right away.

As long as you're not talking about Ebay, go for it. But, you can't sell on Ebay without Paypal.

You don't have to have PayPal to use eBay. But if you don't have PP, you're severely limiting your buying and/or selling opportunities.

Probably just a way to sit on a boatload of cash for extra days and generate some revenue off the interest.
