Paying for living and schooling expenses?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey TB,

I'm kind of at a reality check, and it's embarrassing to ask for help like this, but if it's not too personal or not too much trouble, can I ask for some details on how you're managing with work and school at the same time?

How many hours do/did you put in work? School?
How are you covering for living and schooling expenses at the same time? How much are you putting in for both?

I really appreciate any input and help. Thanks. Also, for those who have gone through this stage already, please read in past-tense

Sincerely,

-Don Nguyen

EDIT: Sorry! I know I make a lot of these threads, but it's confusing trying to get a good idea of it all at my stage/age...

You only get to choose two when you go to college

Honestly, I'm making my way through by gigging often at bars, house parties, and fraternity events. I know some other guys who are doing the same but are working 3-4 hours a day, five to six days a week. I can't really tell you how we do it other than we just do what we have to do. It helps if you have scholarships to help pay for things and parents who don't mind filling up your bank account a little whenever it gets ridiculously low due to things beyond your control (breaks needing a change, new tires, extra school supplies, etc...).

I have gone back to school and because I am not a "traditional" student anymore I recieve a good amount of Financial Aid in the form of grants and some loans. I figure the loans are worth it in the long run. I also do odd jobs when school schedule will allow me, usually painting, minor construction and home repairs, or whatever strange thing pops up ( I dug grave a "green" cemetary..how's that for metal!). Also maybe look into a work-study job at the school. You are allowed to study when the job is not demanding your attention (example:answering the phone). Good luck with managing school and money..it is hard work.
