I just got an email this morning from paypal. It says starting 11-15-11, they will start treating every paypal transaction like they do for ebay. They will hold the funds for 21 days. The only way to get your funds earlier is if the item you sold shows that it was delivered, the buyer leaves positive feedback, or no compliant was filed by the buyer. I feel this will affect a lot of bass selling and buying I do on talkbass. If I'm selling a bass, I can't wait up to 21 days to get my money so that I can purchase another bass or do what ever with my money. Paypal has been doing this with ebay sellers but from the email I got, they will be doing this to every one that uses paypal to collect money from selling something. I guess you could get around this by telling the buyer to send money as a gift. Anyone else get this email? Am I understanding this email correctly?

They think they have the market cornered, which they surely do not. And I'll continue to find alternate means of buying and selling.

The reason I say this is they've been doing this for ebay transactions for over a yr so why send me that email now? They really have no competition. What else can we use here that's just as fast and convient as paypal? Nothing!

I've used it for eBay at least 3 or 4 times. The most for about $110. All other transactions have been for Talkbass deals.
I also just logged into PayPal and did not see anything regarding this change (viewed all the policy changes) so I'm more inclined to say this is an eBay thing.

The email was probably a fake. Did the email have a link for you to log in to confirm or check anything? |

When you fill out the description on ebay say "contact me for other payment options" I just sold a Pedulla on ebay and it really sucks to have all that cash held until mr slow poke finally leaves positive feedback. I called Paypal and tore them a new one. It's definitely wrong to make paypal the default payment option.

If you search the web you will see that someone makes new a thread about this a few times a month. Supposedly they evaluate your account and activity monthly and if they feel the need they put the 21 day hold in place. They rarely remove it though. I've had an account on ebay for nearly 10 years 100% feedback and I have the 21 day hold. The first time they did it was the last time I sold anything on ebay. |

So there's "morally wrong", and I agree with you their policies are morally wrong... but there's "legally wrong", and unfortunately their policies are entirely legal and they make sense from Ebay's perspective. |

-Mike | Here's my question, if one is not using eBay, is PayPal instituting a feedback program on their site? Is there already one there and I missed it? I checked PayPal and saw nothing regarding this issue.
Edit: http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y08/m02/i08/s03 I'm reading this as an eBay thing only!
