Paypal Gift ?

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I make an offer on a bass in the emporium...

And the seller counter-offers me saying he'll accept my offer if I use paypal gift. That wasn't acceptable (i don't do paypal gifts and according to TB policy, the seller is supposed to pay the fees). I didn't reply back to his counteroffer. Now, granted that was rude of me but he comes back accusing me of not being cool and insisting that we had a deal.

In my mind, there was no deal because both parties didn't agree on terms and furthermore, a) I didn't accept counter-proposal; b) Not sure if paypal gift is valid under the seller responsibilities for talkbass sales, particularly when it comes to avoiding payment of fees.

Perhaps the mods could refine the terms and conditions to cover this?

Ya. You're right. Its the person accepting the moneys accountability for the fees.

Also, sending it via gift is probably like sending it in cash.

He shouldn't have asked you to pay fees; instead he should have just counter-offered with a price that he was comfortable accepting (even if it amounted to the same exact price).

I do think you should have responded to him though, saying "I don't do Paypal gift because it's against TB and PPal rules".

It is. There's no protection for the buyer when sending via gift. It's also a violation of paypal TOS to present something as a gift when it's a payment for goods.

Yes, you're right but in my mind he was being unethical to state the paypal gift request in a PM and it bugged me so i did not reply but in doing so, i admit it was rude.

Don't buy what they're selling if they're going to act like that.

This kind of seller request has become common, lately. IMO, it's not a greedy move, but overboard. Like others have said, you can walk away from those classifieds.
