I'm running a, now somewhat dated, NVidia 8800GTX. It's 3-4 years old but I can still play most modern games on reasonably high settings and get a good framerate (at 1900x1200).

One is a PC.
One is a PS3.
A lot of people still prefer keyboard & mouse for games, you generally have more versatility with a PC and have access to a larger range of games. You also tend to get games for cheaper than the console equivilants (but they are starting to match up in terms of price now).

Mods, tweaks, etc. You can customise and fiddle with games forever on PC, consoles basically give you whatever the developed made and that is what you're stuck with.
Of course, with that comes the fact that you need to fiddle and tweak them just to get them working rather than just plug and play (which you can also do).
Other than that, you often get dedicated custom servers for multiplayer games, and generally a good gaming PC is going to be superior in performance.
Oh, and when you get stuck, you can use console commands to fix things, rather than suffer a game ending glitch

Easily have 2x the graphic detail in a game like BF3 or Batman Arkham City... your mouse, when a higher end one meant for gaming is extremely more precise than that wobbly piece of junk controller you use for FPS.
Your games are all saved on your hard drive so you don't have a bunch of DVD's laying around. The online is always free unless it's some life sucking MM like WOW. The servers support 64 players on BF3 whereas on console it's 32. The FPS on PC games are 60 FPS for games like BF3 when you have an awesome system but for console it's maybe 24 and almost "choppy" looking in intense scenes/action sequences. |

For everything else, PC is fairly superior IMO
Edit: And Racing games. I just never could get the hang on them on PC, not that I particularly enjoy them anyway..

While my weapon of choice, so to speak, is the PC. A lot of my mates play on the PS3, so even tho I suck using the PS3 controller, it's good fun having a game with your mates online.

My Nvidia GTX 280's are getting long in the tooth, but because they share the load, I am still able to run any current game with the graphics set on high. Got to play SWTOR during the beta test weekend and it looked great at 1920X1200 resolution on a 28 inch monitor!

What sucked was how darn expensive it is to stay on top of hardware. A good graphics card costs as much as a console, and then you have to upgrade it a year later if you really want to stay on top. I bought my 9 year old son an Xbox360 when they came out and haven't had to fool with it since. It's nice being able to just turn on a TV and start playing, but I just can't get into it. I do do the whole Halo series with him, and while it was kind of fun playing with him, it was also terribly frustrating from a gaming experience. On a PC, I could have totally dominated that game, but pulling off head shots or quick flick shots with those stupid Xbox controllers is just a matter of getting lucky every so often. On a PC, you get used to nailing those shots more than you miss them. Console-only gamers just don't know what they are missing.

I ran an SLI set up for a few years and wasn't thrilled with the heat and noise. When I moved back to a single GPU ( my current one ) I went ahead and made the change to solid state hard drives. I think that change has given me more bang for my buck performance than anything I've done in recent memory.
BTW I was also in the Beta of SWTOR and can't wait for the 15th ( pre order start up baby! ). |
