Pen/Pencil Twirling (OCD)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll confess that I've been an avid pen/pencil twirler for about as long as I've been playing bass (9 years). Started in Middle School, as some kind of hobby to keep me from being completely bored in class during lectures and such (I didn't do too well in school...). Got pretty damn good at it too. After all, teachers start to notice something's going on after your pencil goes flying across the room one too many times

It's a compulsive habit now, whenever I have a pen or pencil or flashlight or chopsticks (etc) in my hand and I'm not using them, I'll be twirling them. My fingers don't like being still I guess. How about you?

I feel like I should put a video up on youtube or something. All the cool kids are doing it

I am the same way, having ADD doesn't help it either.

I also constantly jump my left leg up and down, often vibrating the dinner table, or any table I'm sitting at.

Well, I dont have add, but my leg is constanly shaking when I'm sitting at a desk or table or whatever. Expessially when I'm pluging away at work and listening to music. But it also get's real bad when I'm sitting down having a conversation with someone. If I think real hard about it I can stop. But it's mostly involuntary.

whenever I get together with my family for breakfast or dinner or something they always nag me about it, because it shakes the entire table. I can stop if I think about it, but I always end up doing it again.

I do it a lot in school. It definitely helps me stay awake.

What about Iceman in Top Gun? (He also does it in Real Genius)

I don't twirl my pen, but I do twitch my leg. If there is music on I'm often pretending to play a bass drum with my right leg. I also tap my fingers on stuff all the time.
