McQueary says he notified the police, but the college police and the local police are denying that. Now if McQueary is lying, how is it the police have reported that the DA that was originally handling the complaint is missing, computer files destroyed and is presumed dead? There's so much lack of official credibility in this case that DA may be on some island or in Europe. How about the judge being a member of the Second Mile organization and granted unsecured bail. Since she refused to recuse herself she was removed from the case. The Second Mile org. donated the Gov. of PA over $600,000 for his election campaign and the state awarded Second Mile a grant of $3,000,000. The creep is well connected. It's a shame Paterno got flamed. Stay tuned.

on this issue, i have to agree with Cheese.
the harm is done, and you do not want to spook off others in a similar position to McCreary (sic).
i think the focus should be on the real villains, ie the actual rapist and those who helped him cover it up, whether it be Paterno, the AD or administration.
to go after the small fish seems like typical throwing someone to the wolves to deflect attention from the big boys.

Yes he reported it but he did nothing immediately. I just can't wrap my head around how that would make you freeze. I understand if there's a weapon involved or something but an unarmed guy I don't see why you would run from that.

is there something i am missing here? I admit to not having followed the story closely, but when you say it is a shame Paterno got flamed, it seems to me that paterno is one of the biggest villains.
am i wrong? please straighten me out.

Some act like Joe is built like Johnny Weismuller under those sweaters he wears and he should've yelled and grabbed that creep by the scruff of his neck and threw him out. And at the time Joe couldn't have been a day under 72. Joe didn't witness the act, the McQueary kid did and told Joe about it and Joe personally went to the higher ups and left it with them, and Joe fired the creep from his position as defensive coordinator. Add to that all the connections the creep has/had who covered up this mess for over 13 years even a supposedly dead DA who had *the files* concerning this case. I don't think with all the football and health issues Paterno had he was anyway responsible or covered up anything. That's why I feel Joe took too big a hit for this mess.

McQueary comes out ahead IMO, because there is real facts that he went to officials he should have, who did not take it any further.

taking what you said as true, the fault seems to lie with the admin higher ups, not Mcqueary or joe....well, maybe mcqeary a little bit more than Joe, but they both seem to have reported it.... just not to the police (or so the police SAY); that seems to be where both of them may be vulnerable.
and of course, what tasty said is absolutely true...i will take mcqueary's word over that of the cops who have something to gain by saying no complaint was made.

Then he sees something I am sure he wishes he never saw. Legally he did what was expected of him; morally maybe not. Now, with all the outrage he is embarrassed and is hedging his bet with a different story to save face under the scrutiny. IMHO he is a secondary victim. Jopa is as well but he had the power to do something and should be held to a higher standard.

First-hand witnessing of a felony and he didn't got straight to the REAL police? Call me paranoid but I don't trust campus police to handle stuff of this magnitude swiftly. It seems like he did exactly what Paterno did but the difference is that he isn't nearly as well known.
I do believe that getting rid of Paterno was the right thing to do but 1) after everything he's done he should be given his retirement benefits and I hope he'll sue for that much 2) It seems there are other people who were in a similar position and did the same things but they still have a job. That isn't fair at all.

IMO, that makes it a coverup and I'm sure Paterno in the loop.

It begs the question why? Why did he retire and why did he not take another position elsewhere? My guess is he was told to retire and to never list Penn State as a reference in the hopes it would just all "go away".
