Anyone know these types? Lately one of my best friends just seems absolutely hopeless with his life, yet he takes it out on me that I'm a good enough friend to actually let him in on anything he appears to be failing at. and he's a fellow musician.

Oh yeah, they come from all walks of life. There are a few people who work with me who don't seem to be happy unless they are complaining about something, usually something to do with the job. Then they'll say "I can always get a job somewhere else!" and I want to ask, "Why don't you then, if you're so unhappy here?" They never get around to finding that new job, though...

I live with one of them. He's a compulsive gambler and an alcoholic. As a matter of fact, class was canceled today due to snow, so he bought a keg to celebrate.

He blames everyone else when his life doesn't go his way, but he does nothing to help it along.

I like to complain about other people's lives and then tell them how to fix it.

my friend is simply put a punk rock loser with an inferiority complex. He listens to bands that only have few singles in their career (Think 7 Seconds) and thinks they "were the best". he's always talking about how he practices drums all the time to perfect specific rhythms..........frankly I almost never heard the difference. Oh, and he REFUSES for ANY REASON to play anything but punk.

In most cases people never do anything to improve their situation because doing so usually starts with taking a long look at oneself and making changes there first. It is much easier to get on the internet and complain that your professsors are all out to get you

If your referring to previous posts I never said all. I said SOME. And seeing as how the bureaucracy of the music department caused the staff to grade me unfairly (turning in ALL work perfectly according to assignment and recieving an unexplained C+?). The other courses were just a bit more difficult.

You mean username? I'm just joking btw, OT wouldn't be nearly as interesting without you.

Seriously though...Some people just don't see their problems as fixable or goals attainable, especially when the solutions take time...Weightloss, drug addiction, bass playing for that matter....they'll come around when they see someone else bounce back and it becomes real.

Maybe it's because he likes to play punk? That's no different than somebody only wanting to do metal, jazz, etc.

regarding the getting in shape thing, I basically used to be the same... After I had pneumonia for like two months, I figured that I could stand to be in better shape and live a healthier lifestyle. I now go to a gym at least three times a week and so far, I've been feeling pretty good.

I understand the liking: play songs that you prettymuch only need one string to understand. The problem: it's not the 80s anymore, and the punks today have been exploited as rich worthless snobs.

it's actually quite different if noone around you wants to hear it.

I'd say 2 of those three can be fixed in a split second's worth of time. Smash the bass and hide the crack lol.

No, but really, it's more of a motivational problem then anything else.

I mean c'mon, someone "practices" day and night and you haven't heard the difference in a week's time? little screwy if you ask me.

My parents always taught me that if you don't like something, change it.

I have some empathy for people who moan about their lot, but when they take no action to improve it, I have very little sympathy. I just go on with my life and let them drift along in theirs. Not my job to change them.

Exactly, you may loose 5 pounds in a month or learn to play over 3 new progressions but you'll still have a long way to go at the end of the month in either case. It's a matter of continued determination really.
