Mubarak has stepped down! http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa...pt=T1&iref=BN1
On this historic day, I wish you all the best of luck in rebuilding a government that is just, fair, free of extremism and a friend to us. As an Egyptian friend would often say to me:
May god bless and guide you.

Egyptians: If anyone tells you you need strap on a bomb and blow yourselves up in order to kill those who don't think like you do, steer clear of them, don't make them your leaders.
Call me crazy, but it's worked for me.

Egypt: proof that even in a non-democratic state, the people still hold the power.

To the people of Egypt:
Sometimes the American Govt. does things that are inexplicable to us as well as the rest of the world outside looking in.
Regardless, THE PEOPLE of this country support every persons right to freedom and self detrmination. All day, every day, everywhere on the planet.
What I have seen in the last two weeks has been nothing short of amazing and inspiring.
Good luck and, try not to eff it all up. |

Congratulations, Egypt. As they say in your area of the world, may Allah watch over you and guide you.

I wouldn't bet a nickel on that happening, but I really hope I'm proven wrong. |

I think they'll be absolutely fine.
In the West we're just jaded by what's going on in other parts of the Middle East, so any change of gov't gets us a little worried IMO.

When is the last time military rule was less than oppressive or even successful?
I just hope they get what they really wanted and fought for. |

I've been to Egypt twice and never felt threaten or unwelcome. i saw muslims tending christians shops when they were not in and vice-versa. I even remember my muslim guide taking us to a jewish synagogue and having a friendly conversation with the rabbi. I'm not saying that there are not nuts that want to impose their religious views but they are a minority.
Last week I remember seeing how the Coptic Christians formed a human chain to protect the muslims while they were praying and then the muslims returned the favor during christian mass.
That people only want to have a normal live and have the same rights we enjoy and take for granted.
We should feel humble and wish them all the best because they'll need lots of goodwill as this is only the first round in a long battle.

Congress basically handed over full power to Washington at one point during the Revolution. At the end, Washington stepped down. It even prompted King George the 3rd to admit that "he is a better man than I".
Granted, it's a little more complicated than that, but it is what it is.
