People with their names on their liscense plates.

Ive started noticing that I can usually tell, at a pretty high percentage, if a guy is a douche just from looking to see if they have their names on their lisence plate. Also, their douchery goes up exponentially if they drive a PT Cruiser and are named Chad.

No offense to people who are named Chad.

Yeah I'm in 2 minds about private plates. There is a trend in West Oz to have them. Rubbish like "TOOHAWT" or "PINKY" and "R" and a few names.

The worst plate I've seen IMO was "PAIDCASH" (way too arrogant) and the best one was "X QS ME".

I must say that (although obviously a generalisation) I have found that in every case where I have actually met the person who has personalised plates - they are obnoxious, bigoted and totally selfish individuals or as you say....

I wonder if THX-1138 had a vanity plate.
In California in the late '70s people were getting plates that had phrases that could be read in a rearview mirror.
I think the drivers with their ham radio call letters on the plate are the coolest. (not)

I don't think that I personally know anyone with vanity plates. However, I'm sure there are decent people that have them.

Every stereotype has a grain of truth to it.

And the same goes for t-shirts that say crap like "Too Hot" or "B**ch" and all that nonsense. What shill of a human would wear that garbage? And who the hell is proud of being or would proclaim themselves a b**ch?

Why thank you sir.

That's the first vanity plate I've ever got. The state of NH came out with a new online license plate look up system where you can check availability of plates. That was available and I said "why not?"

at least it's not something like:

IXLR8

2QT4U

CUL8R

BYEBYE

I've seen all of those.

What's wrong with personalized plates? My brother-in-law's initials are "SF" and he owns a 1934 Ford 3 Window Coupe hotrod.
His number plate is "SF1934".

My grandparents own a BMW 318i that has the plates "JF318I".
"JF" are the initials of my granddad.

In 1987 I ordered "PRE CBS" for Maryland. No one knew what it was except the Vintage guitar geeks. They loved it.

The one I want now is "IPROLE" for my extremely mundane looking 12 year old Chevy Cavalier. (See Orwell's "1984" for explanation.)

On a Northern Territory trip (Australia) with a good mate, we noticed a dude in a fairly crappy Holden with the black-on-white plates "DEDSXY" and ... let's say one of my great regrets in life is that I didn't act on my idea to turn it into "DEDSHT" using some paper and black electrical tape we had handy .... just didn't want to get anyone in trouble with the law.

Two I've seen on nice cars here in Salt Lake City:

SUED4IT

WAS HIS

Had to fight the momentary urge to run these manifestly unlikeable people off the road.

They are called vanity plates for a reason. Although I think plates other than your nicknames are OK.

Speaking of vanity, remember when every Volvo station wagon had a yellow 'Baby on Board' sign in the back window?
My winter beater back then was a Datsun wagon with a replica warning sign that read Pods on Board from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".
