Performance Improvement Plan

Have any of you written a performance improvement plan for yourself or someone you manage? Have you ever had a PIP given to you by a superior? I am curious to hear your experiences. Thanks.

Someone at my wife's work was put on a PIP about 2 months ago.


She got fired about 2 weeks ago.

She developed an incredibly crappy attitude, and basically dared her supervisor to fire her when she was given the PIP. They kinda needed her for a while, so they document, document, documented, and axed her at a convenient time.

I really hate to see anyone get let go, but I don't see as how she gave her boss much of an option.

Man, these days, with the job market how it is (I've been without a job for 9 months, and have put in over 50 applications) I'd do everything I could to stay in a job, no "performance improvement" necessary...
