Hey guys, are there any permanent dye out there for aluminum, steel, or other types of metal alloy that doesn't come off easily?

Thanks!

Anodizing isn't really that hard, and you could take whatever it is to a machine shop and get them to do it for some scratch.

On a DIY scale it really isn't unless the requirements are something really special.

On an industrial scale it's relatively cheap method, but only a few companies like the hassle of dealing with private customers.

What are Your requirements, budget and what parts You want to have "dyed".

I would like to dye the shaft of a chrome lacrosse stick (that is, assuming I can't find shafts that come in the colors I want). As of budget... I don't know, nothing over $10.

In that case You're s*** out of luck, I believe. Any DIY or professional coating will cost more and a stick shape isn't the esiest or cheapest anyway.

And nothing sticks well on top of chrome.

If a custom is the way You want to go, I'd look for a pro powder coating as the way to do it.

Yeah anodizing a single stick isn't a hit... Maybe spray-painting will be enough for you?

On second thought, I'll just look for sticks in the color I want... I'll try to put up with the inferior quality may that be the case.

Aluminum anodizing is actually very hard and there are different varieties including some that are diamond hard! The problem is the the anodized layer is thin and the aluminum under it is soft. Anodizing will hold up VERY well to light wear like the inside of paintball guns, etc.

For a lacrosse stick, go with powerder coating as mentioened above!!

Does the colour matter that much?

Id go with powerder coating too.

Is your lacrosse stick actually chromed? I find that a little hard to believe, but if it is then you should leave it because that's awesome.

I wouldn't bother with anodizing because in my experience, anodized aluminum has poor scratch resistance in high wear situations. In lacrosse you're going to bang sticks into each other right? In that case your stick will get all scratched up.

Screw coating it... I'd go get it knurled.

Give you tons of grip and friction so you don't slip your hands during play.

Plus it looks awesome, and will hurt like heck if you were to ACCIDENTALLY scrape it against an opponent's arm. Heh heh.
