"Personal" grooming injury

Sign in to disble this ad
For the first time in my life, I have cut myself with scissors while cleaning things up in my "swimsuit area"...
....I think that I must have been pulling at some strays, and pulled the skin up into snipping range... it's a pretty good sized cut....in about as personal a place as a person can have...
Can I just hope to treat it myself, as though it were a deliberate injury, like a piercing, with salt water, anti-bacterial soap, etc, or am I going to have to go humiliate myself to a bunch of strangers at an ER as well as here online?....

I'm hoping that this gets funnier as time goes by - right now, not so much....did I mention that I have a sore ankle that makes it hard to stand right now, too?

I'm not sure if I want to ask you to post pics, but there's no way to determine the extent of the injury without looking at it - or you describing it in detail.

What I will say is that it's unlikely you need to go to the ER, or that you will suffer any major consequences. You didn't actually cut a piece clean off, did you? Most of my, ahem, accidents down there involved a slight snip that left a fairly shallow cut. It will usually hurt a lot worse than it is, because the area is really sensitive. If it's really minor, you just want to protect against infection by keeping it clean: tap water is actually OK for this purpose, but you could use topical hydrogen peroxide, salt water, rubbing alcohol (youuchhh), whatever.

Keep the area clean, covered (bandage of some sort), and use something to prevent infection: neosporin/similar, and/or betadine two or three times a day. A big mistake people make with betadine is they pour it all over the area, and wash it off. You don't need that much of it, and it's better if you let it sit and dry with the bandage covering it. Watch out while applying it, because it stains everything, horribly.

If it's a really big, nasty, or deep cut; or you actually removed a significant amount of skin, you may want to head over to the emergency room. Your post doesn't really describe exactly where the cut occured, but regardless, that's the last place I'd want to have an infection. And if it gets worse or looks gross/infected, then you definitely should see a doctor. I wouldn't want to have to amputate anything down there!

Why do you need to engage in that kind of activity in the first place?

Using scisors for that area in 2008 is considered raised by wolves...

Go to the freaking ER, "i cut my flower" sounds a lot less embarasing than "im dying because of the infection ive got because i cut my flower and i didnt want to come to see you 3 days ago doctor, plz save i dont wanna die" + having to show your cut and infected area to said doctor.

BTW you just got a hair cut youre at leastsmart down there!

Bravo for the effort. A tidy business is highly respectable.

Sorry you had a trimming fender bender. No medical advice other than be nice to it.

Take a mirror and see how deep the cut is. I doubt its anything you'll need to see a doctor for so for now, I'd hold off on an ER visit. Just keep the area clean and put some antiseptic on it and you'll more than likely be fine. Maybe even use a butterfly on it as a preventative measure. I've put a gash in my balls a time or 2 and they're still both there, so I'm thinking you'll be fine.
