Pet peeve: Stickers on CD albums

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

Thought this topic would deserve an own thread. Anyone else here that thinks those stupid stickers the stores and record companies put on the CD's are just extremely annoying? The fact that it often is a hell to remove them don't make it better.

Really great album, by the way. I've thought of adding it to the "perfect albums" thread in the "recordings" forum here.

EDIT: Another related pet peeve is the box they put the CD's in when in the stores. They often prevent you from seeing what tracks there are on the album....

Yet another bad marketing decision by the record companies. The stickers don't do much to sell any particular CD, really.

Sometimes. But mostly the CD's are just packed in a plastic case with some theft preventing stuff on them.

It's worse when they put them on LP sleeves.

Hmmm... I'm actually the other way on this one. I like the stickers. I feel like I've lost an essential part of the packaging and information when they're on such a temporary part of the packaging like the shrinkwrap.

It always makes me smile to look back on early releases and find out which tracks the record comapnies had envisioned for singles.

On the picture in the previous post, I doubt cassette was a step forward from the LP. At least not considering the version of the cassette that became the "standard"....

Back on topic: I don't mind all stickers; If they are graphically good-looking and containing some interesting information they can stay on. However, I hate price tags. If you look more carefully on the pic I posted in the original post, you see I had to struggle quite a bit to remove that one. I got it removed completely, but there's still there some adhesive left on the CD case that is really hard to remove. The other sticker may stay....

You can always use some lighter fluid? It gets the stickers off of books really well.

Douse some flammable material with lighter fluid, then rub vigorously...

Pick up a bottle of Goo Gone. I use it to remove all sorts of sticky labels and price tag residue.
