Besides the drugs, the article mentions that the police confiscated $68,000 in cash. What's that all about? Why are they taking peoples' money?

Often enough if you are a drug dealer caught with, say, $10,000 in cash on you, and you cannot 'prove' that you acquired it through legal means, it can be seized. You've probably heard of this before when, from time to time, the police seize large amounts of cash from citizens on the assumption that it's dirty money. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

I would also suspect that in addition to pot, they probably confiscated some hallucinogens as well (LSD, Psilocybe cubensis, etc).

They don't care if you smoke. Smokers don't carry a million worth of weed. Sellers do.

Which gives you the street value of the drugs, giving you an idea of how much the dealer was going to make, rather than how much they paid their supplier for it.

Actually, $1000 of weed is less than a pound, i.e. quite concealable.

I didn't get it,it says 194 fans were arrested.Were they all fans&dealers or just smoking dealers?

Meh. I've always felt the lot scene at Phish shows were pretty contrived. So many suburban hippy kids pretending, and trying really really hard to make it like the lot scene of the Dead. Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Phish phan, but the lot rats always kind of seemed pathetic to me. The Dead was very much like a traveling flea market, with a really happy positive vibe around the Dead with a focus on acquiring tickets for the show. There was something kind of natural about it. It died with the Dead.

Im going to guess most of the money was seized from the Nitrous dealers. There were many many tanks. The police let the tanks run for a while then seize the money from sales.

That being said, It was an awesome weekend. There were 40-50,000 people in the Hampton Coliseum parking lot and adjacent lots. The venue holds around 13200 I believe. Only 194 people arrested is not that many out of the estimated number of people there. The cops I saw were very courteous and helpful.

The shows were fantastic, great crowd great venue, great band. I cant wait for asheville and Bonnaroo.
