So I ordered a new samsung galaxy s2 that's on it's way but I'm a little skeptical about putting a case on it because cases scratched up my otherwise new iPod touch and previouse phone. How do you avoid this? :/

Nope, I don't. I work in an office all day, so my device just sits on a desk during the day. When I was in construction, I used a case with a screen protector.

First thing I do is put a screen protector on my phones. Screen protectors cost pennies and they really help protect from scratches. Second thing is to put a protective case around it. Most smartphones have large glass touch screens and if they're dropped on a corner, the screen can break.

I use an HTC EVO, and I've done this for my phone, my wife's, and those of my daughters. I don't like silicone cases; I use one that's more of a snap-on that covers the back and sides.

Chris, I have the same phone and I use a screen protector as well as a combination skin/belt clip. I think it's a hard silicone.

The screen protector is kind of overkill for the phones with the gorilla glass (SGS2 has this, among many other phones). Otherwise though, I don't use a case or shell/skin at all. It goes in my pocket, and I make sure to put nothing else in there. No change, keys, picks or anything. All of my phones are in great shape due to this, and never dropping them
I don't like cases in general due to the "bulky" feel they end up having. About the only thing I would consider is a skin since they don't really add size to the phone, but since so far scratching and dropping haven't been an issue, it's not something I'm concerning myself over.

Most cases only cause scratches if debris is between the phone and the case (or gets between the case and the phone).

I try to think that it'll get scratched anyway, so a case helps larger drops/damage

I've only used a screen protector for mine. But I am typically careful with my possessions. I've had one screen protector since I got the phone last July. A year and a half ago. Yep. The one he put on for free at the dealer. All I really do to avoid damage is never put anything else in the pocket I put my phone in. I don't habitually check the phone either, especially if I'm outside and it's humid or rainy.

I ****ing lol @ white collar office workers getting like...otter cases for their iphones. Dude seriously? The most strenuous thing you do during the work week is take fat chunky poops because you drink too much coffee. Your phone doesn't need some indestructible bomb proof case. But whatever, your friend got one so you gotta keep up.

You may not know what your coworkers get up to out of office hours

I've got Sprints version of the SGS2 myself. No case/skin/screen protector on mine. I had a case and screen protector for my old Samsung Moment... lost the case after a couple months because it was too bulky and felt cheap. I briefly had a Evo 4G I picked up used that had all of the above... I rather liked the graphite weave skin. I took the otterbox off and tucked it away until I sold the phone.

I'll consider a skin for the SGS2 if one catches my eye (saw one that looked like Maple Burl I might get)... but like others have said, I keep mine in a pocket that nothing else gets put in.
