Way way too cool, but now I'll never be able to walk on the beach without feeling guilty again!

Make me want to make a necklace out of sand, and sit on the beach playing my acoustic

I now feel awful about all the beautiful little pieces of naturally-occurring sculpture that get stuck where the sun doesn't shine every time I go to the beach.

Somehow I ALWAYS manage to get sand down in my swim trunks when I'm at the shore. Now...instead of feeling icked out by the sand clinging to my boy bits, I feel rather that they've been properly adorned. Nice

On a serious note - way cool, thanks for posting that

So when I went to that nude beach in Maui I was really nude, but rather adorned with thousands of tiny shells? I feel gypped....

Little Beach? I went there (to Maui) as a kid and I seem to remember hearing about a nude beach called "Little Beach," right next to "Big Beach." As you can tell, it stuck in my head...

Yup, tis the one. Its actually the only nude beach on the island. I asked the concierge if there was a local nude beach and she says "Little Beach". I said, "No, a nude beach". She goes "Little Beach" with a smile on her face and I went

Big Beach is actually a very public beach with lifeguard towers and familes all over it. Theres a rock ridge at the end that take your through a small wooded area and you come out to a little cove full of nude people of all varieties. Young good looking men and women to old dudes with colostomy bags. It was a liberating experience, capped off with a little naked walk through the woods, where we came upon an older gentleman who really seemed to be enjoying the sites from afar. We had a good laugh at that one.

Almost none of those sand grains are derived from rocks. Most are of biological origin. I suspect each grain was individually selected before being photographed. While there are beaches with sand consisting of organic detritus like that in the picture, most have sand derived from upslope rocks, and wouldn't produce such elegant-looking grains.

Yeah, when I was looking at those tiny shells I couldnt help but think, well, where are the eroded rocks? Surely tiny pieces of rock look nothing like that!
