lowsound | Pi is for geometry-lovers. Go on and try some e. It will get you through Calculus. |

As a fan of statistics, I'm gonna go with the Phi-coefficient, aka golden ratio. Tau is great too
Btw if you like Pi, you NEED to check out this vid:

For those that haven't heard it..... there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.
Best maths joke ever. |

What Pi sounds like http://youtu.be/wK7tq7L0N8E | A fascinating fact about φ is that its inverse is 1 less than itself, and its square is 1 more than itself. Knowing that, you can say φ 2-φ-1=0, so:
(-(-1)+((-1) 2-4(1)(-1)) 0.5)/2(1)=(1+5 0.5)/2
φ= 1.618033...
φ -1= 0.618033...
φ 2= 2.618033...
Mindblowing!
You use e in statistics, too.
For instance, normal distribution:
f(x)=(σ(2*π) 0.5) -1*e (-(x-μ)/2σ)2

Best maths joke ever. | An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first one says "I'll have a pint," and then each next one says "and I'll have half of what he's having." The bartender says "You're all idiots!" and pulls two pints.
What does a frustrated mathematician say to his children when they misbehave? "If I've told you n times, I've told you n+1 times!"
How do you insult a mathematician? Tell him his brain is smaller than any ɛ>0. |
