piezo buzzers.

I'm thinking of making a piezo pickup out of a radio shack buzzer. Most of the time when I see someone make one, they usually put shock absorbers around it and such, so why does the piezo element have to be pried out? Am I missing something

You might consider searching in the luthier, pickups and electronics, or basses forum for more info on this.

A while ago, I bought some piezo film. It saved me the trouble of prying it out of a buzzer and it had a bigger surface area which would seem to be logicaly beter, I don't remember where I got it, but i found the link in the luthiers corner.

viola. the piezo has to be pried out because it needs to make direct contact with the vibrating surface it's on. a 'shock absorber' of some kind is a good idea since simply touching the guitar (regardless of where the piezo is mounted) will create a vibration which will be picked up and amplified.
