I have been 18 for about three days short of three weeks and I feel too old for cigarettes (thats what you get for starting at 16). I would like start smoking pipe tobacco rather than cigarettes, I have wanted to for some time, but now I have much more convenience on my hands.
Unfortunately I dont know where to even start. But then I remembered a places full of classy gents..... Talkbass.
So can anyone tell me anything worth knowing when it comes to pipe tobacco?
Thank you,
Sam. |

I always would just buy the hand made blends from my local tobacconist. They'll be infinitely better than the cheap stuff. I really liked the cherry blends... also check out some vanilla ones. I can't remember the specific names of the tobacco, but it's been a year or so. I'm getting back into pipe smoking, it definitely is enjoyable.

Also, perhaps you should check out smokingpipes.com. It's a good forum with a lot of really knowledgeable people.
And for God's sake, can we have a thread about smoking pipes one time without a pot reference? Come on, people.

Pipe smoking has a risks for mouth cancer... but as you don't inhale the nicotine the buzz is nowhere near the same, so it's nowhere near as "addictive." It's just something you do from time to time to enjoy it (and yes, the average pipe tobacco is a delicacy compared to the garbage they put into cigs).

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | A good vanilla cavandish smells like a little slice of heaven. I used to smoke a calabash pipe back in the day. They smoke very well. Go to a tobacconist and ask a few questions. Just make sure the person you're asking is over the age of 35. I doubt many people younger than that have any actual experience in the field.

Just for a little treat. It's nice and relaxing, and enjoyable, but not something I'd want to do often. Our shisha puts out a butte-load of smoke, and after two bowls I'm pretty satisfied and don't feel the need to have a smoke for a month or two. It's just a nice thing to do every now in then. I'm 17 and I have never even thought of smoking it more than I already do, to me it has no addictive qualities.
P.S: I usually have Double Apple or Mint flavour.

On a slightly unrelated note, I think it's time I invested in a hookah.

I have a packet of lemon tobacco, and while it tastes nice it's a bit too full on when you only have that flavour. In fact it's a bit sickening. However I only have apple, mint and lemon at the moment. Any combination of those three doesn't sound too appealing to me.

After reading and talking, it'll really come down to you sticking your nose into a bunch of different blends to find what catches your senses. Buy small amounts of a few/several you like an fire 'em up. I'd give your pipe a cleaning between bowls until you find what you're going to settle with; though some might disagree with that hassel. My personal favorite was Captain Black - Blue (blue package; there's also white & gold).
FYI-- I enjoyed the pipe for many years and I did take it into my lungs. It just didn't do it for me otherwise.
