When I was in Lake Charles, LA I knew it would afford me the chance to enjoy one of my favorite regional beers, Abita. I downed a few while I was in town realizing my chances to enjoy this fine brew are few and far between.
Last night as I am walking through the grocery store with my wife, I glanced over at the beer section. I thought I saw the Abita logo. Sure enough, I DID! I grabbed myself a six pack of Restoration Pale Ale. I looked for the Turbodog, but it was not there. They did have a few bottles of Purple Haze, but I don't really like fruity beer.
There was no one around to ask about how frequently they would keep Abita in stock, or if they planned on offering more of the Abita brews. But I am definitely going to follow up. This is really good beer.

Sigh... Beer in the grocery store. One area where Canada is seriously lacking...

Hell there should be faucets on the streets that you can drink beer for free.

Here in California beer & liquor are much cheaper at grocery stores, and some stores have pretty good selections. Though for the really good stuff its best to find yourself a good liquor store.

As a matter of fact, last Friday night I was there, had some gumbo, some crawfish etoufee', and an Abita Andygator ( http://blog.nola.com/tpmoney/2008/08...ygator_ge.html), which was 22 ounces of Cajun happiness in a bottle....
...man, one of the main things I miss about not living in the Slidell/Baton Rouge corridor is that I no longer drive through Abita Springs regularly like I used to...the brewery has an AWESOME restaurant, if you're ever near there, you MUST go.

You were actually the one who told me about Abita in the first place, back when I went down to NOLA for the first time.
I remember sitting in the L'Auberge Casino the other night drinking a bottle thinking to myself how I better enjoy this since I can not get it back home.
I am definitely going to try and find out if they are going to carry Abita permanently at this grocery store. They have an upscale wine section, and so they are trying to do the same with their beer section now too. They have a whole bunch of beers from around the world, and are slowly starting to bring in regional brews from around the country. Mostly the big names. This is the first smaller brand I can remember seeing there.

I can walk down to a grocery store and get beer with almost 10% alcohol in it (Dead Guy, Arrogant Bastard, Spaten Optimator,...etc.).
They just recently started selling beer in the Liquor stores and that was just so they could up their sales.
That said; I thought Utah was the only state that had such strict "Blue Laws". |
