ok, so my nephew is 10.
he contracted lyme disease...
unfortunately, he didn't have any of the normal symptoms(swollen knees, for example).
it was not caught for a year...
they figured it out and ran antibiotics straight to his heart.
well, unfortunately here is the most recent word on his condition:
the hypothesis that this has become an autoimmune
disorder/damage in the autonomic nervous system of the brain (kind of the brain stem), sort of like MS, triggered by the Lyme in is Cerebral Fluid. It is so rare, there is no real research on this yet, but does fit his issues.
lots of tests still being run...
we are sparing no expense at finding the cure, all the specialists we can find/ are referred to are being contacted.
the poor little guy was very active; ice hockey, soccer, baseball...
now he can barely watch cartoons or have a conversation.
no brain damage or anything...
we know he's in there, but the physical discomfort keeps him from normal communication.
he gets wild vertigo when he tries to think complex thoughts....
so, basically, we are all scared sh!tless right now.
if anyone has any referrals they can give me, please pm me.
for religious folks, please pray for him (any and all religions!). |

There's a lot of ongoing research into autoimmune disorders. Fingers and toes crossed here for the guy.

Do they think that the antibiotics will eventually knock it down enough that he'll get some relief?
Poor kid! Prayers and good vibes heading his way.

| | | | Call Connecticut Children's hospital. I'm pretty sure they have an expert on lyme and other insect borne illnesses.
I can't recall his name but my daughter had something that they thought was lyme it wasn't, and we dealt with him.
Also, they first found lyme in CT so I'm pretty sure they have lots of knowledge here. |

| | Registered User | | | | | mpm,i think they are actually currently dealing with a doctor on staff there,
thanks for the tip though...
is it dr. Charles Ray Jones by any chance?
the antibiotics did work on him to an extent, but unfortunately the disease was able to develop for nearly a year before it was caught...
he was so active, never showed symptoms or complained/ appeared to be sick. apparently the disease is on the rise and mutating.
