Please help with my computer

I need some help figuring out what is wrong with my computer...

I am using a dell desktop, xp, and firefox browser. When i'm on the internet(starting last night) every 40 seconds or so a new tab opens automatically. At first it brought me to this third party security website trying to get me to dl some software to remove the 3 viruses it detected. I didn't, but i then ran a scan with Macafee and windows defender: nothing. After adding the website to my block list, the popups switched to different sites, mostly it seems like random searches. One of them was a credit company, another about troll blood. There is something on my computer, but none of my security software, which is up to date, is detecting anything.
What do i do?

Definitely a virus of some kind. Try running your anti-virus in safe mode, or download spy-bot or ad-aware. Run that in safe mode as well.

I've had great luck with Spy-Bot Search and Destroy. in the past.

Safe mode: Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard

Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html

Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Sounds like you have Smitfraud. This thing is like a rash. First try this site:

thanks guys, i think im all clear now.

i have to turn off all background stuff when playing video gamz and sometimes i forget to turn the security stuff on again after...so this was likely my fault.

anyway, once again, tb has proved extremely useful. Thanks!
