change the settings in avg so it allows mozilla to work? generally programs ask you if you want them to block a certain other program, so its odd that you didnt have a choice....

It's weird, i couldnt find anywhere where avg has options for allowing/denying programs. But thanks for commenting Santucci.

Anyone else?

Looking at the virus scan in your screen shot, what is the file khfcwmm.dll doing in your windows directory? Looks suspicious to me. I'd make sure you get "14 threats found" cleaned up first.

Then download the tool to completely uninstall norton:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039

If it still doesn't work try restarting firefox with a new profile:
firefox -p

If it still doesn't work, try reinstalling firefox. Your settings should be retained, if they aren't trashed already.

Disable the virus scan and try opening firefox
If firefox still wont behave, Uninstall and reinstall firefox

Thanks everyone. I've had to resolve in doing a complete system restore.

But my restore point was before the virus scan you see in the screenshot, will my old viruses be restored with the system restore from say, last week?

Only if your backups are infected too. If you backup an infected system, and restore it, you will still be infected.

Firefox used to be great I guess. Now it's slow and buggy IME.

Shoot IE7 is faster and bug free on my system than Firefox.

www.majorgeeks .com (remove space before.com)

Go there and ask away, read away and you just may fix your problem. That site has been a tremendous resource for me.
