Autistic kids have a way of silently wandering off. As a result, accidents are one of the leading causes of death among kids with autism.
That's why we got a trained service dog for our daughter. We just practiced a tracking exercise an hour ago. My daughter would regularly escape the house and quietly disappear. Now Shenandoah keeps an eye on her and finds her when she escapes.
I sure hope they find the kid soon, but the part about a creek is worrisome.
I know what it feels like to have your autistic child go missing. I just turned my head for a minute once at a ski resort and she was missing for 15 minutes. We had everybody looking for her and I was beginning to worry that she'd been abducted.

Autistic kids have a way of silently wandering off. | Thanks for pointing this out in a non-judgemental, informative way... It truly is amazing how quickly a small child can drop from sight, seemingly in the blink of an eye... Especially troubling in that John apparently hides from those looking for him...
OP, any update? Thoughts and prayers...

The last story from the US about the Autistic Child and Creek unfortunately didn't turn out well at all.
I have an autistic nefew, and know how skilled he is at "pulling the old Houdini"
...as well I have a 7 year old, and if she was ever to go missing, I would simply lose my mind.
I send my best wishes, thoughts and good vibes.

And two nefews who suffer from autism. I feel so useless today stuck at home with two small kids wife at work and cant go help look.
Anyway they have not found him as of yet. Ten hours missing! Aurora is a small town but it looks like most of it came out to search! There house is not on the creek but close to the park where the creek runs thru. It is a large creek and flows about a mile from the park before intering the Ohio river.
I hope for the best and ask others to do so to!
Edit:My kids do not have autism i see it kind of reads funny.

| | Low wattage tube butter! | | Join Date: Mar 2011 Location: S.E Indiana | | AURORA, Ind. -- Emergency workers in Aurora searched until darkness Sunday night for a 7-year-old boy with autism who hasn't returned home.
The boy was last seen at about 11:45 a.m. Sunday at 451 Park Ave. in Aurora.
Officers said John Burton Jr. -- who is non-verbal -- was wearing gray swim trunks, no shirt and no shoes. He has blond hair that has been cut in a Mohawk style.
Police said the boy stands about 4 feet 10 inches to 5 feet tall and has a thin build.
Investigators said Burton will sometimes hide from people he believes are looking for him.
Police said they initially thought Burton was with a dog when he disappeared, but they now said that's not the case.
Bloodhounds were brought in to try and track Burton, but so far they have turned up empty handed.
Ed Napier with Buckeye Search and Rescue Dogs said, "You feel for these people. It's emotional in that sense, but we train very hard and we're trying to find a successful conclusion."
Sunday night investigators say Burton's scent stopped near a creek. But, officials say they are certain he's not in the water.
Chief Bryan Fields with the Aurora Police Department said, "Right now our investigation is mainly treating this as missing persons. But we'd be remiss if we didn't say we're not interested in an abduction scenario. But we don't have evidence that would support that at this point."

They have no idea right now where he is...so being "certain" about anything is guessing at best...especially when the scent stopped at the water.
Seems like odd investigative behavior to me...and they should not be overlooking the creek at all, they should get the dive teams in there pronto.
Most children love water, they are drawn to it...I know my daughter adores being in and near water.
