Plumbers, I am in dire need!

Hey guys, a little BG, today as a b-day present for my grandma, we got her a new faucet and garbage disposal since both of hers are broken, goodtimes. Since I have a little bit of experience in these things, I took on the task.

Everything went great with the faucet, though I had to run out and get a new basin wrench, still goodtimes.

The trouble came after I removed the old garbage disposal and came across this flange which I'd never encountered before:

And embarassingly enough, I can't figure out how the hell to remove it! I wish I could just re-use it with the new disposal unit, but the old one has only 2 "teeth" and the new one, a Badger 1/2 hp, has 3, so I can't mount the new unit to the old flange, and I guess I've only ever replaced Badgers that had the simple 3 screw flange mount system. (sorry for my lack of proper terminology)

This is getting extremely embarassing and aggravating, and I had to admit defeat for tonight, something that truly pained me, but i just can't get the sucker out of there... So my question is if anyone has any experience with these :bleep: and if so how did you remove it, this is the only thing holding me back from finishing the job, thanks guys (or gals!)

Oh yeah, btw the model was a 1/3 hp whirlaway 191 if that helps, I couldn't find any info on this style flange anywhere, thanks again!

Well, to answer your question, flanges tend to screw/unscrew. Some of them just have slots where you twist it a little and then drop it down.

Are you trying to remove just the silver colored flange or the whole basket assembly? I haven't installed many garbage disposals but I believe that flange and the black part are one piece and can be removed using a large pair of pliers to unscrew it.
