Hey guys - I've just completely rebuilt my website, and I'd like to get some critiques from my bassist peers. I'm a total HTML hack, don't own a PC to test this on, and am completely self taught, so any advice/criticism/praise/flames would be quite welcome. Methinks it looks pretty good on my end, but gød knows what it looks like out there on the intarwebz.
Clicky here: http://www.analyzerrecords.com
I'm also considering adding a Gear page - but methinks that might be just a bit too niche/pointless/self-aggrandizing. But maybe some people (and potential employers) might dig it. What do you think?
Thanks in advance, brethren. |

People read this kind of stuff, and believe it. I hope you plan on delivering.

You going to be at the show in Tacoma, Washington on April 10th? My wife wants me to take her, so maybe I'll have a reason to go now too.

The one thing I found myself missing was the identity and purpose of "Analyze Records". Is it just your personal label for your personal projects? Do you have other artists on your roster, or do you plan to get some eventually? Does Analyze Records offer any goods or services beyond your personal recordings? A logical person will infer that this "Benjamin Strange" person on the one page is part of the entity going on tour on the "tour" page, but how many artists on the Analyze Records label are on that tour? Are the bands you are in or supporting affiliated with the label in any way other than having you on bass?
These questions are not in any way sarcastic or "jabs", they are just questions that a visitor to your site might wonder about, which you might want to address in the way the site presents its identity and purpose. |

-Mike | Yes, we'll be opening for the Peas in Tacoma, at the Tacoma Dome. That's the last stop of the tour, as far as I know. Quote:

I'll take your suggestion under advisement - not really sure how I'm going to word it without making it sound lame. |

"analyzer recørds is an independent recørd label, høme øf benjamin strange, burnt infant, and ufø death cult." Need I say more than that?

Having a website like this is essentially advertising, so what are you advertising--a record label? I'd write down the sorts of people you want to find your site, and what you want from them. Then think about the people who may casually run across your site, and whether you want to address them. For example, is the main goal of the site to sell CD's? Is the main goal of the site to showcase your professional achievements, like a curriculum vitae? Is it more casual, like a MySpace or Facebook page?
It's OK to tell me I'm overthinking this BTW. |

I've made some changes based on your suggestions. At this point, I'm thinking it's a catch all site - to sell some CDs of my various, get people to shows, to get other band leaders to give me a call when they need a bassist, to post blogs, and generally put out an artsy fartsy vibe. I'll look into tailoring things to a bit more of a specific approach in the coming weeks.
What do you think of having a gear page? Cool, or lame? |
