So I guess political discussion is now allowed since there are political banner ads on this forum. This has been brought up in the past and yet it's here again. |

You really are beating a dead horse with this thread.

Afterall, who knows what will show up and this is supposed to be an all ages forum. They cannot hide behind the "we have no control over the ads" statement. |

In all seriousness, the gripe about the political ads is making a mountain out of the proverbial molehill, IMO. If the Google ads help Talkbass sustain itself, then I don't see a big deal. It's not like they're ads for scat porn or asking posters to join Stormfront.org.
Just my opinion.

I either have been lucky enought not to get any of the political banner ads or have ignored them.

I'm also not openly questioning moderation or anything like that because I really don't care if these types of ad's pop up or not; But the rule does state no political threads. One would think advertising would also apply to this rule.

| | You don't want to do that. Trust me. Forum Administrator | | Join Date: Mar 2000 Location: atlanta ga | | | we block what we can find.
complaining about this is like complaining about how we allow trolls, and don't block them before they post. we cannot prevent folks from ever violating our terms of use, or our acceptable content policies, at least initially, whether it's with ads or with posts. we can only block them once they do.
the folks submitting these ads to google -lie- about them to take advantage of google's system, and thus get around folks, like us, who block broad types of ads with google's help.
the ironic thing about this is that these ads, which are specifically and purposely bypassing the filters both we and google put up, are presenting themselves in places they are specifically not welcome. no better way to hurt their own cause, whatever it is.
another thing to remember is that ads are regional, and are targetted to folks based on what is known of their surfing history. you might see an ad presenting some political content that nobody else outside your area sees. i know -i- haven't seen any political ads.
if you would pm me the url of the ads that you are seeing, i can make sure they get blocked. and in the future, if you see ads like this, please submit them to me or one of the other admins directly, so we can take care of it.
