Pork Roll: The New Bacon?

Sign in to disble this ad
It'll never happen, as those outside of North Jersey, East PA, and metro NY/LI have mostly not even heard of it, but you people really ought'a try it if you have the chance.

It's one of those things I really miss about the Northeast. I can only get it down here intermittently.

Living near Trenton, I was brought up on the stuff and still love it.

A thick hunk, cooked to perfection where it's just starting to brown...., then served on a good hamburger roll with lots of mustard...along side a cold beer...yummy.
I don't eat much of it anymore though, as it 'aint exactly heart-healthy!

It's hard to describe the taste...it's kind of like bacon and a hamburger mixed together. very salty too

I haven't tried that one. I mostly would have a PR sandwich with some kinda cheese and/or eggs. Thick cut is great, but sometimes I would go to the deli and have them slice me up some thin stuff that cooks in no time.

Oh, .... and on a real bagel.....man.....I can't get either down here. Nor pizza or good Chinese or.....

whaaaat?! No pizza, Chinese or bagels?
Whattya guys eat nothing but alligator or something??

I've never tried it really thin-sliced. I usually make it hamburger style but now that you mention it, it's also great on a bagel with an egg and cheese.
You can also cube it and mix it into scrambled eggs

dammit, why did you go and start a thread like this, now I want pork roll!

*stomach gurgling..*

I still eat whatever it is that passes for that heavenly stuff down here, but it's nearly all sub-par.

Nothing better than a Taylor Ham, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel with salt and pepper, a side of chips and a pickle for a Sunday lunch.

there ain't much finer than a couple slices of Taylor brand Pork Roll fried up well done, topped with some melted American cheese and all sandwiched up on some hearty white toast with a touch of mayo

Wow. I'm disappointed in all of you. After all that bacon has done for you, this is how quickly you turn? You oughta be ashamed.

I'm sorry, bacon is #2 in our hearts. Taylor Ham is by far the #1 meat in New Jersey.

Looks like spam or bologna in a roll. No thanks. I'll stick to my real food.

God, you guys DO NOT KNOW what you're missing!

You have the official Relic word of absolute honor that the stuff is great and you would love it.
C'mon now, what more proof do you need!??

Spam is nasty. Bologna is nasty. This looks to be the same.
