poseurs or aficionados? (clothing related)

what do you think of people who wear clothes that reflect specific interests/lifestyle, even though they may not necessarily actively identify with that interest?

for example: a non-musician wearing a Fender/Ampeg/whatever shirt, a non-footballer sporting Umbro, etc.

doesn't really bother me, but i know people who get wicked pissed at 'poseurs.'

I think it's funny that they sell Fender and Gibson shirts at Kohls.

I suppose it's no different than wearing a jersey of your favorite sports team. You're obviously not on the team, but you're a fan.

i could care less, I asked someone once wearing a fender shirt "hey you play?"
"no i dont, i just like the shirt. Should I play?"
"whatever." (Croox walks away)
I think I made him feel like a jackass.

My drummer often shows up to gigs dressed as a gay cowboy. I don't think he's ever actually seen a cow up close before.

Me too. I have 10+ soccer (football) jerseys, another 4-5 rugby jerseys. I give them as gifts and ask for them as well. (I'm at an age where I don't need any more gifts, so I call peoples bluff and point them to a $99 Ukrainian national team jersey and say here's what I want).

They are incredibly comfortable for someone with a pear shape, esp. in summer. And great conversation starter.

So, am I a poseur or aficionado? Probably both. I follow world football with great zeal, but can't figure out rugby to save my life...

I wear a Fender shirt that was given to me. It's turned out to be an unwanted conversation starter. I just don't wanna talk gear with the guy serving me at Taco Bell & stuff. And it's always guitar players. Usually just saying, "I only play bass," which isn't exactly true, shuts 'em up but I think I'm gonna burn that shirt. Maybe dress up a goat with it.

I did it once, I was in need of a guitar player at the time. oddly enough nobody ever talks to me when i'm wearing my fender shirts. oh well.

I haven't got rugby all figured out, but from what I've seen, I REALLY enjoy it. I went to England last year, and while there, watched some with my cousin's husband who is a huge fan. The English team was NOT doing well at the time.

The only thing that bothers me if someone was wearing a t-shirt for a cause, a band or something else that they don't support.

so long as I'm not subject to look at manboobs, saggy she-boobs, or forced to hear anyone talk about what's on their t-shirt, you can wear whatever the Hell you want...

All my shirts have some kind of meaning to me. I don't like buying shirts that just have a store logo or some kind of company logo that I don't care about. I have tons of shirts from favorite restaurants, places I've been to, my favorite teams, stuff I find funny, events I attended.

Half my t-shirts I got for free! I like having stories behind a lot of the things that I own. it makes them more interesting and personal.

As much as I'd like to say I really don't care, I kind of do. Two semesters ago in my music theory class started playing 'Dancing Days' on this piano and asked the kid in the Zeppelin shirt if he recognized it. He didn't.
