The positive side of a car failure

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, last month, June 20 exactly, I was driving my Opel Astra (300,000 miles old) to my favourite local dealer (100 miles from my home). I was on the highway while, suddenly, I noticed a pop noise and a weird smell, and immediately noticed my car was overheating.

I stopped the car on an area then called my insurance company for assistance. Things were not that easy, since I had my whole gear in the back of the car (SR5 + LMII + 2 Markbass cabs).

The insurance guy on the phone found me a solution, calling a cab to drive me with all my gear to the dealer’s shop (my gear was going there for a trade-in).

Then the cab arrived, driven by a very kind and beautiful woman. I loaded my stuff into the cab, then we took the road.

I was pretty much stressed by the situation. I didn’t know whether the failure was serious or not, whether my car was dead or not, and I even didn’t know when I could take it repaired out of the garage (that was a Friday afternoon, the garage wouldn’t open on weekend, and I had a gig on Saturday).

The taxi driver woman was very nice to me, talking with me about my musician’s job, and she was so kind and friendly (and, yes, charming) that I finally felt more and more relaxed than what could have ever been imagined.

Later in the evening, I got my car back and went out the dealer’s shop with new stuff.

Since then, I can’t get this woman out of my mind. Guess you all know what it is, when you meet someone and a small voice inside your head tells you this woman is “the one”.

I couldn’t stay silent. Today I finally decided myself to write her a letter to tell her about my feelings. Guess this hadn’t happened to me since at least 25 years. Strange feeling. And of course, at this point I can’t say what may happen then. Will she call me and insult me ? Will she ignore my letter ? Will she call me and ask for us to meet again ? Maybe she is married and his husband will call and threaten me ?

Well, I don’t know what’s going to happen. All I know is that I wrote her that I have strong feelings for her, but that respectfully for her I won’t disturb her again (unless she wants us to meet again, of course).

I took a risk today. I have no clue what’s going to happen now. Maybe I’ll feel ridiculous, or maybe something unbelievable will pop out in my life. But you know the rule : “if you don’t like it, change it”, and I must acknowledge I don’t like my current private life any more.

The positive side of this story is that a car failure led me to fall in love again. That’s such a great feeling that it justifies all the fuss I had to stand on that day.

A few days after the failure, my Opel Astra died, as a result of the overheat (the broken pipe in the cooling circuit had caused serious damages in the cylinders head). And I had to find a new car in a hurry. But despite all that, I still say that was a great day.

I don't know if I would go as far as to say you have strong feelings for her. Maybe you do... we all get crushes sometimes... but you've only just met her. Good luck though.

A beautiful cab driver picks up a stranded musician...sounds like the opening scene of some sort of bad chick flick!
Stranger things have happened though. Best of luck my friend I hope it works out! Good job on having the coconuts to write that letter

I'm reminded of the line from a celtic ballad

"He saw her and immediately fell in love - or something much like it..."

I hope it works out. Bonne chance.

So she's not a cabbie...does it really matter??

Dude, you wrote a LETTER to her? She gave you her address? That right there is a sign...not sure what it's a sign OF, however, so take it for what it's worth...

Seriously, getting that feeling again after a long time is a weird thing, n'est-ce pas?
At the very least, there's a song in there somewhere.

Bon chance, mon ami!
