Is it possible to fix scratches on plasma tv screen?

Sign in to disble this ad
To top off the ******-ass weekend I had I came home to find out that my lovable, adorable, wonderful cats decided to use our 50" plasma screen as a scratching post. There are dozens of scratches all over the right side of the screen, which are clearly visible when viewing something.

I'm _really_ getting mad because I'm reading a few things online about getting things like this fixed and most have been saying that getting a new screen is pretty much going to cost the same as replacing the TV.

Has anyone had to deal with this before?

We've had the TV for six months. After saving up our money to pay for our wedding for a year and a half it was the first nice thing we bought ourselves after we had been married. I'm so pissed. I really don't need this right now.

Should be possible to fill in the scratches...

The trick is that you see the scratches because light refracts differently on the edges of the scratches. If you fill the scratches with something which behaves like the material the screen is made of, then you won't see them. CD scratch remover might work.

Honestly. Toothpaste. No joke. Just wipe it on and off, nothing like that Crest Pro Health with sand or anything in it.

I don't understand why glass screens aren't used anymore.
Is there a technical reason behind it ?

They sell a spray on polymer than is made for filling the scratches on plastic and acrylic. I bought some for a pair of eye glasses (made of polymer) that slid across the pavement. While it wasn't perfect it worked well enough to use and see out of the glasses. buddy used it on a fish tank exterior as well worked great!

declaw you cats! (at least the front paws anyway)

The display element is doubtlessly glass, but there is probably a protective plastic window in front of it.

This window may be replaceable.

I'd ask this guy....

...but you might want to wait 'til he's in a better mood

I sympathize Mr Duck. I had just re-drywalled the laundry room when one of our "sweeties" decided to use the newly painted wall for a scratching post. When i expressed my emotions my wife called me "mean".

Open it up all sneaky like break something on the inside then make a warranty claim. I don't there's is a ton that can be done about it although some of the suggestions do sound pretty good. I would look hard at warranty/return options though.
