man, me and a friend just built a potato gun a little while back, and man. its the most fun ive had in a while. we have been getting shots out to 200 yards, or around 400 feet. its awsome. and we have accuracy to a tee now, we can hit a stopsign (one i bought, not one on a pole) out to 150 yards almost everytime. and we can take 3-4 shots per minute with a 2 man setup and reload team. its wicked, i love it, and i hope you guys have some experiance with them as well, cause they really are amazing little toys

It'll be all the more valuable when the sour cream and chive aliens invade us.

I nearly blew my hand off a bit back when the screw cap on my friends potato gun flew out the back way.

Haha, lots of fun. Built them as a kid, and am quite lucky I'm still alive to tell about it. Those things can pack a wallop!

200 yards is 600 feet, other than that, potato guns are fun.

ive built one. entirely too much fun. just watch that back cap. we had vaseline on the threads of ours so it wouldnt get stuck.. sometimes it got cross threaded because someone put it on too fast. had it fly off a few times. looking back, i feel i could do it better, and take care of the thing so it lasts longer.

+1 I still have one and break it out every now and then and entertain the kids. +1 on being careful of the cap. Also I would recommend wrapping some duct tape around the combustion part also because I had one blow apart on me and cut me once. What are you using for propellant? Hair Spray? Works the best. Aqua net.

My brother had one of these.... I think he finally wore it out after a few thousand satisfying rounds of pure, mindless, juvenile fun.. He still talks about that gun with very little prompting from anyone.. ha ha......

I love mine. I dropped on the way back to the garage last time and the main tank broke off. Simple glue job.

Compressed Air or Hairspray?

we tried to make one using propane.

needless to say, plastic pipe and fire do not mix.

My propane one worked great. Still does actually. For a while, I had stun gun ignition and it was awesome.

I should also mention that we did it incorrectly......it's really hard to explain what went wrong, but one second it was fine and the next it was spouting a jet of fire.

I have a standard combustion type one(aerosol) and I have heard that hairspray is actually a pretty crappy fuel because it gunks up the inside of the chamber where the aerosol is and can mess up the barrel too. I use Right Guard and it seems to work pretty well. It would be sweet to have a pneumatic one, I have seen one on tv hooked up to multiple air sources; they used it to fire 2x4s through walls.

One thing to remember, USE Schedule 40 or 80 PVC. Cellular core PVC is a great way to hurt yourself.

Not math accuracy.

Also, not spelling accuracy.

Just sayin', is all.
