Private Road - Crushed Concrete vs. Crushed Limestone

Sign in to disble this ad
I've used Limestone on driveways before.

But this time we need a lot more coverage. Crushed Concrete is cheaper.

If we assume for a moment the price is the same ...
Anyone care to compare the usage? Which might be better and why?

THANKS

Limestone is a key component in concrete, so yer already halfway or more there... That said, limestone itself is very durable, and over time and weathering with settle in better as a surface as it's partially soluable with water... between that and compacting...so crushed concrete is almost overkill. Layer good packed base, rockdust then crushed limestone, should last a good long time. I helped do a horse riding ring in this method, and you'd be hard pressed to tell, over the course of 4 years, that it was ever used...(surprised myself how well it held up)

The great pyramids were made entirely out of limestone if that is a testament to its durability.

crushed concrete doesnt pack down nearly as well as limestone..

go with some 2a modifieds and you will be happy.

that or find a shingle factory and get a load of scrap shingles.. they give them to you provided you haul it.. last a hell of a lot longer than the other options its a pretty good option.. they are kind of a pain to spread tho..
