Anybody else agree that guns should be done away with?

My view is that until we all see each other as brothers and sisters, as cheesey as that may sound, and lay down our arms, this world of ours will continue to be filled with discontent and war-like behaviour.

By the way, this thread is for people who honestly want to discuss the problem of guns in our society. NOT for people who are going to put a negative spin on this. There is lots of pro gun threads including a gun club. Please take your disparaging remarks about those of us who dislike guns elsewhere. Thanks.

Yes, this is a serious thread... people being killed by guns is a serious problem.

Lightbulb I GIVE THIS THREAD

2 pages, max. Takers? I'll bet an unopened set of Warwick SS strings. ML.

Edit: On topic, I'm all for gun control; I use both hands.

i am all for trigger locks, and gun safes, but i tend to fall in the "from my cold dead hands" category on the subject of gun control.

Please discuss from a pro-something point. When the first post is "I hate guns", it's a negative thread, no matter the title. If it continues in this vein, it will be shut down.

That being said, I'm all for gun control - it saves ammo and ensures you hit what you're shooting at.

There's a reason the US founding fathers put the amendments to the US constitution in the order they are in. Freedom of speech followed by the one thing that they knew would preserve it...or at least do the most to preserve it.

Sooooo. How's it going so far?

I'm of the opinion, and yes, opinions are like..well y'know. People who shouldn't have guns are going to get guns. If a bad guy wants a gun he'll have one.

I think a huge problem is that people aren't exposed to guns, gun safety and responsible handling/ownership and that's what worries me.

I have nothing against anti-gun people just as I have nothing against vegetarians. I respect your opinion but it is not my own. I will say that if a vegetarian tried to restrict my access to meat, we'd have a problem.

By the way. I'm loving my Sig P-220 Elite.

I love guns actually and even own a few. I'm even perusing gunbroker.com while we speak.
That said, I do believe that there are far too many **illegal** guns out there and would love to hear of a plan or way to have all of the criminals that use them turn them in.
If "gun control" means taking them off of the streets, then I'd like a number please.

I'm about as liberal on as you can get on most issues, except gun control...

As a kid I was in the marksmanship club, I learned to respect firearms. I don't own a gun but I do think about buying one from time to time...marshal law, foreign invasion... unlikely but possible...post apocalypse a gun would be nice. Can you really protect your family in a world of firearms without one?

There is something about shooting skeet that feels great, the kickback, the smell...I don't think its my right to take that away from someone, same with the right to hunt...as much as I like the woodland critters I can see how someone might want to hang bamby on the wall.

In the long run its the right to own guns that keeps this country alive on a fundamental level, its in the bill of rights for a reason, the ability to rise up against government if need be is what keeps government from destroying its people.

I am however against handguns, and automatic weapons..hand guns serve the purpose of killing people more than any other gun...a gun doesn't need to be portable unless you are a cop...You don't hunt with handguns, they are less accurate and have less range so they can't be better for shooting targets...handguns are made for killing.

Lastly when someone uses a weapon on another person their life/freedom is forfeit, to take that kind of risk and to do such a terrible thing, essentially taking two lives, clearly we have a more of a mental health problem than a gun problem.

That's my .02, tried not to offend and to keep it civil, cause I do love a good debate.

RETRACTION

In light of all the pro-gun posting, I rescind my earlier wager. This kind of talk could go on all night.

ohh, that'll change. Give it about 4-5 hours, I'd say. Just watch and wait, you could set your watch by it.

You've obviously never hunted with one. I've taken two deer and several hogs with a scoped S&W 629 almost out to 200 yards. I've even taken a few hogs with my 1911 and open sights.

I love my guns, and exercise the expansion of my 2nd Amendment rights whenever my budget allows. For now, my 4 pistols, 10 rifles, 1 shotguns will have to do.

If you do not like guns, that is your choice. Do not, however make the mistake that your beliefs should over ride mine or other law abiding gun owners.

i will not waive my 2nd 5th and 18th amendment rights. however if i am exercising the 18th i will not exercise the 2nd and probably not the 5th but i think you get the idea.

This said, I'm all for gun control. I believe there are many situations where carrying a weapon is justified, and I think hunting is fun.

But I also think that you don't need a military assault rifle or a machine gun to do this. So yeah, gun control seems like the good solution.
