In honor of last night on RAW, I think we need a new pro wrestling thread (that and I can't find the old one offhand).
After watching the Punk shoot 2 weeks ago, and last night's confrontation between Punk and Vince, does anyone else think we are moving into a new "era" of wrestling? WWE PG era was very stale, and had no hint of realism at all to it. It was almost corny good guys vs. cartoon character calibur "villians". This product appealed to no one over age 8 or so, IMO. But now, with Linda McMahon no longer running for Senate, WWE is free to add more grit and realism to the product.
Now, do we ever need to go back to some of the sexually explicit storylines of the 90s? Nope.
Do we need gratuitious profanity and blood? Nope.
Do we need realism? yes. And minor profanity for "effect" is ok (Vince calling Punk a SOB). Profanity for shock value is not ok. I think we are moving into an exciting time.
My predictions.
1) Cena will become a heel/bad guy
2) Punk will become the anti hero (think Stone Cold) and #1 guy
3) You WILL see Colt Cabana in a WWE ring... soon.

Just kidding! I loved it back in the 80's as a teen and got back into it for a while back in the 80's...around the time of DX, Rock, Austin, Angle, and those folks. I pretty much quit watching when The Rock left, what happened to him coming back? Is he there now?

| | | | Tell ya one thing, even though TNA has toned it down just recently, I'm still kinda sick of the fake crowd noise on their weekly shows. For a few months now they'd have ya believe there were 25,000 people crammed into that Universal studio by the sound of it.

Raw/Smackdown need to spice it up a little like they used to. I sure liked that Sting won back the title from An der son which will throw a wrench into Hogan's Immortal (which I am sick of). I love all 3 shows, but TNA Impact is just a bit more exciting plus they've revived the X-division.
Does anybody know what happened to Matt & Jeff Hardy?

| | | | Jeff was suspended due to drugs. Thus why he dropped the title to Sting in about 30 seconds. He was high as a kite and couldn't wrestle the match so they made it a squash match and suspended him. Last I heard he is still refusing to go to treatment too.
Matt was suspended because he kept showing up late to shows.

For one, I can't stand the fake crowd noises either. I remember not long ago Biscoff was in the ring giving a promo, and it sounded like thousands of rabid fans jeering and violently booing him. However.. if you looked in the crowd, no one in the crowd was making a peep. No ones mouth was moving. Hell, it looked like everyone in the crowd was sitting their on their hands.
The Impact Zone in general needs to go. Atmosphere is very important. You watch RAW, and you see a full arena. You watch TNA and they are in this goofy, cheesy looking studio. Kinda gives TNA a 2nd rate feel IMO.
TNA also needs to get rid of its senior citizens... Sting, Flair, Hogan... and anyone else who was actively wrestling in the 70s and 80s and who is still on tv needs to go.
Lastly, they need to get of Mike Tenay. His commentary sucks. They should hire Tony Shavonne.

Your'e dead on about the "Impact Zone", you can clearly tell the wrestling fans in the audience from those who just wandered in from the theme park. When you watch a TNA PPV they cant do the fake crowd noise live real time so it becomes painfully obvious. I think it was the same Bischof promo that I had the same thoughts, not one persons mouth was open or moving but it sounded like a stadium full of frenzied fans.
Atmosphere and crowd reaction really has a bigger impact on a show than one might think. The old ECW arena LOOKED like a small hall but people were losing their minds every week and at least to me it reminded me of the small smoke filled halls of when I was a kid watching AWA and WWWF with my dad on grainy UHF channels.
I dont mind Hogan/Flair/Sting... so long as they stay in a seldom used commissioner/manager/etc type roll, but yea, lets keep these guys out of the ring. Lets face it, suspension of disbelief is tough with these guy in the ring, even though Sting channeling Jim Carey doing the Joker cracks me up, almost as much as R. Truth doing Gomer Pyle.
But Shavonne? Argh! I HATE Shavonne and I actually like Tenay and Tazz. Are they great?, No, but I like the way you can tell they are genuinely friendly with each other, but they are no Ross/Lawler...but then who is? Of the two I'd rather see Tazz replaced.

| | | | Yep, atmosphere is important, and I felt the same way you did about the ECW arena. Impact Zone looks like the inside of a Chuck E. Cheese or a laser tag arcade. You see like a couple hundred people in the crowd of this cheesy studio, and its like.. ah, ok.. this is really cheesy and B rate looking.
Even WWE has lost atmospherics to a degree. In other words, no matter which arena they are in, it looks about the same. Back in the 80s, you could always tell MSG, or the Boston Garden, or other areanas.... they all had a unique feel to them. Today's arenas all look cookie cutter and pretty much the same.

I hope he enters through the crowd and cuts a promo on top a skybox or something.
BTW why does Punk want back ice cream bars? I heard they tasted awful.
Also why doesn't the "New" Nexus disband there is no reason why it should be around the Corre broke up it's time for the Nexus to do the same. Besides who'd be the leader Otunga? Yeah right his wrestling skills are better than his mike skills and their horrible.
I'd always known Tarver whould go but, I thought for sure Otunga would be the first Nexus member fired.

(perhaps ladder is fitting)

Right, what I was talking about were these ice cream bars that had bubble gum eyes, looked kinda like this:
*note, this is a ninja turtle version, but they had wrestling ones as well.
Your post reminded me that they had ones like this:
And I dont remember whether or not Ive ever had one.

I hope Kelly held her title.
