| Freaky, I'm in exactly the same deal. Guys at work gave me a nano, I've been using itunes on the pc for a long time and figured it would be a sinch. Also, working in IT for exactly 20 years you'd figure I should be able to work it out. Yeh right. It busted my chops for about an hour. I upgraded the software on the ipod but found you have to go to the ipod withing itunes and select the music tab where there is a radio button to either sync auto or manual. You have to set it to manual.
I then dragged the music to the ipod and it copied accross fine.
edit: Click on your ipod on the left hand pane under devices, click on the summary tab at the top, select manually manage music and videos. Drag from you standard library to the ipod.
