Proper cable wrapping - electrical appliances?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, we all know the "correct" way to wrap our instrument cables. Now what about appliance cables?

I got a really snazzy new Bissel Hardwood Floor Vacuum. (Stick vac). Which, BTW, absolutely kicks arse picking up dog & cat hair.

Anyway, I was wondering about the electrical cable for it. All vacuums seem to have the same set up as the old carpenter elbow wrap, which we all know, is pure evil.

The problem is, I can't seem to find the bias in the cord. It came elbow wrapped out of the carton, and feels super twisty already.

Does anyone wrap their power cords/extension cords the proper way too? If so, how does one find the bias of a cable? Is it possible for a cable to be twisted and have it's bias deformed?

Stewie, you're judgmentally quoting bible verses and you don't even know how to read!

Yes, there is an over/under technique which works very well. There are videos which demonstrate it -- google "cable wrap over under technique" to find them. I saw this many years ago, and I became a convert (despite the razzing I get from band members who don't really understand the value).

Well, you learn something every day, but the trick is how do you train the wife to wrap it this way. Afterall, vacuuming is her job, not mine.
