PS 3 Controller Issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I brought my PS3's controller with to my brothers tonight so that we could play some games in split screen mode. We configured either the system or controller for mine to be player 2.

I tried using the controller on mine when I got home and it's not working. The red lights on the top left all simultaniously flash then the controller shuts itself off. I can't turn the ps3 on with it, when I turned it on via the console, I got the same problem. I know the controller is not broken, but how do I fix this problem?

Yeah, I have it pluged into the usb on there.

I can't find my owners manual either and am thinking maybe if I can reset the whole system (if i can figure it out) might fix the problem. The down side I lose every game I've downloaded.

try resetting the system by pulling the power cord from the wall.

Try plugging it in with the USB cable. then turn on the console manually.
If that doesnt work use a paperclip to reset the controller. Theres a tiny hole on the back. If you are holding the controller normally your left middle finger will be right about where it is.

I have it plugged into the USB and tried the reset function on the controller 3 times already. The lights just keep flashing. The controller was working fine at my brothers and now its doing this. Would resetting the ps3 to default settings fix the problem? If so, how can I reset the system without using the controller?

I don't think it would work. The problem is that the controller is (forgot the word - connected?) with the other PS3. You have to reprogram the controller with your PS3 like the first time you used it. There's probably a guide or something on Sony's website.

And according to Google you must plug in the controller and hold the PS button. If it doesn't work, try reseting it like LakelandBass said.

I have a Wii, so it's probably different, but is there some sort of synchronization required with the system? I know when I bring my Wiimote elsewhere, such is necessary...

I think I have a bigger problem. I held the on/off switch down till I heard a series a beeps, I think this resets the system. I got a message saying "Connect the controller using a USB device, and then press the PS button." Well, my junk is connected with the usb, so I'm thinking I have a bad usb cable, the controller somehow crapped out on me on the way home, or something in my system went kaput.
