the psychology of a Facebook user

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I reactivated by FB page, just to catch up and see what was going on with folks. Well, one of my old bandmates (and he is probably not unlike many others) has a weird habit of posting a play by play of his life on FB. I noticed this, and was intrigued.

For example.. this guy went to Disney with his wife. He would post every ride they were on. How long each line was. Commentary on the people in line. What they ate. How much it cost. He must have uploaded 50 mobile uploads in a 4-5 hour period. He gave up to the minute detials of when he was getting in the car, when he got to the hotel, when they ate, where they ate, etc. And I read further on his page. He does this everyday. He isnt hurting anyone. But its intriguing. He posts everything he does, everyday, and states who he is with, what music is playing, etc. Hell, he doesnt get in the car without posting what song is on the radio, or how the guy in front of him is driving. etc.

My question... what is the psychology behind these sorts of FB users? Are they starved for attention? Are they self-absorbed? Narcicistic? Intriguing.....

In real life, I dont remember him ever being an attention whore, or starved for attention like this... weird.

Well, your friend has a life. I suggest you get one too?

Posting on FB every time you fart equals having a life?

I'm about to make a FB page for my band because it's almost necessary, other than that you wouldn't catch me dead on FB.

If you actually have a life, you probably aren't going to have much time for FB.

FB provides a personal life blog for everybody. And they expect you to subscribe to them because you are friends already. What I can't stand is when you see them they say "hey did you see my post about [something pointless]?" "Na man." "what?! omg" "dude sorry I don't read it every day."

A couple of studies have found a relationship between FB use and narcissism. Here's one:

Well, at least here most of us are utilizing a broader community of bass players to actually learn something useful. I personally am not interested in what you are doing right now.

I joined facebook a couple of years ago, and soon after cancelled my membership. I realized I was spending waaaaaay too much time on there, and not enough time practicing or looking for a job

Aside from being self absorbed and narcissistic, your friend hasn't discovered that no one other than maybe you want to know what he does every second of every day.
