The story is complete and the movie didn't tell the complete story. I also met Chris Gardner and played with a band at one of his book signing events at his office. The movie also didn't tell how he grew up playing trumpet and wanted to be the next Miles Davis. He told us that in person and requested "All Blues" and never once took his eyes off the band during the sets. In the book he also describes his fascination with the trumpet as well.
