Question about High Definition formats

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a PS3 but I have no HDTV. I've ask a few months ago about connecting my-then- xbox 360 on my iMac to play in HD, but without success. So I guess there's not much more for my ps3.

Anyhow, I do have a computer screen for when I had a PC. It's a Samsung SyncMaster 997DF. The specs are at

http://reviews.cnet.com/crt-monitors...html?tag=specs

Now I'm a noob with that HD stuff but maybe, hopefully, could it support HD ? According to Wikipedia, my monitor fits in the "HD Resolutions", that is why I am asking ?

Thanks for your help !

well you can hook a ps3 up to a monitor, my friend tried to explain it to me so i could do it to mine one time...all i got out of it is that you *may* need a special hookup adaptor type thing, or you may not. If you can get it in HD or not im sorry i have no idea.

I really don't think so.

It looks like you have a CRT monitor that only handles an analog VGA input. I think for HD it would have to be a digital DVI or HDMI connection.

If you want to view HD content through your computer via an HD drive your video card would have to handle a HD signal as well. I really don't know much about hooking up a gaming system to a computer, but I'm pretty sure the monitor would have to handle a digital signal in order to view it in HD.

HD is really only about the resolution of the screen. Via component you could get a nice HD image but digital is really the only way forward now as that is the way the industry is going.

I use a cheap philips computer monitor with my 360 at 1680x1050 (well its a bit less with the console but thats what my mac outputs to) and it looks sharp. I bought M$'s VGA cable and all is good

I wouldn't waste money on a proper HD telly yet, I'd give it a few years.
