A question for all you EC fans

I was over at Facebook, and I followed a link to Eric Clapton's website, where they were having a Xmas sale. While I was there, I got to thinking - why hasn't EC been knighted yet? He's done as much in the music world as Sir Paul, Sir Elton, and Sir George Martin.

British guys, chime in. Is there something in the process that's keeping EC from getting a Sir in front of his name?
