A question for Hydrogen users.

Sign in to disble this ad
So I recently installed hydrogen on one of my Linux computers (Ubuntu 9.10). Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it as it keeps crashing at random after about 30 seconds of use. I cant find any specific trigger to what's making it crash, playback, editing, importing drum kits anything at all and it just closes on me. Does anybody have any idea what's going on?

Hydrogen is the most instable drum machine I've ever used.

Latency issues?

Hydrogen has been more than excellent for me. I plan to use it live in my solo act.

It requires "jack" which has a 'setup' section where you set the audio system parameters such as device, buffers, rates, etc. This determines system "latency," among other things.

If the parameters are set incorrectly or even just poorly, you will get "x-runs." Excessive x-runs will shut down jack which in turn will break hydrogen (usually with a pop-up message). You can monitor x-runs by starting jack before starting hydrogen, and opening up the proper "messages" screen from which you may monitor x-runs and other messages.

Do you have more than one sound card/device? Once or twice after major system updates my settings were "lost," and the jack interface pointed to the wrong device. Latency went from less than 2ms to over 10. Took a while to figure out. I prefer to use the card/device that affords better latency.

Latency is reported at the 'set-up' screen. There are many tutorials online to help you, some better than others, depending upon your knowledge and system...
