I'm inclined to say that it's roughly equal with our allies' tanks. The Brit Challenger, German Leopard, French Le Clerc, Israeli Merkava, and Japanese Type 90 (off the top of my head) use basically the same armor, or at least the same ideas, as well as the same/same-ish weapons systems. As far as I know they all have the capability to shoot on the move at a target that's 1-2 miles away. But like any tank, hit it in the right place and it's dead.

My wife's uncle was the head of the Star Wars program at Northrop. I'll ask him next time I see him, but I'm pretty sure he'll have to kill me if he tells me.

Seriously, it would be hard for me to believe we don't have a space-based anti-ballistic missile system deployed. If we do, I'm sure it violates international treaties, so we're not going to fess up. A few years ago I judged graduate presentations of engineering projects at UCSD. One of them involved evaluation of a "deployable" truss for deflections. The truss was provided by the Air Force. The student speculated that it may be part of a platform for a rail gun, but he was not told what it was.
