quick computer question

Sign in to disble this ad
quick question:

Is there a way to tell if/how many pci express slots one may have w/o opening the case? ie, from my computer?

for what its worth, im trying to upgrade my graphics card, currently the old school x300..., and am hoping i wont have to replace anything else at the moment. The rest of the system is pretty good: P D 2.8, 2gb ram, 160 yada yada... (well, good enough for me)

thanks,
s

Try looking at your BIOS settings. There is a chance that info might be included in there. When you reboot, just go to 'setting' vs. the normal operating systen load up. But my guess is you'll have to open your PC's case to be 100% sure. Anyone else??

thanks.

i just did that and:

under pci info, it listed all the slots and what was in them.
It said my vg card was in "Peg"

i looked around a bit until i found a page that said i could switch my video adapter from pci to pci express, and it was set to Peg(pci express) So im guessing that means i have pci express...likely to be only x2...?
If that is the case, what would be the best way to go for a new video card? I will replace my motherboard, processor, and everything else in a few years. for now i just need a good card to get me playing some cooler games.

i really have very little idea what any of this means....i just want to play video games...
